With a chance to face Notre Dame in the National Championship, the underdogs in the Longhorns, knew that they needed to have a fast start against Ohio State in order to control the tempo of the game. After going three and out on their first possession, the Longhorns had to rely on their defense to send a message to the Buckeyes that they were not going to run them over. However, Ohio State had some huge gains by Emeka Egbuka, who looked like Thanos catching everything around him. Quinshon Judkins finished off the drive with a 6-yard touchdown to strike first blood.

For the most part of the first half, the Longhorns had trouble getting any productive drives going. Each time it seemed like they had something going, a crucial penalty would push them back, making it much tougher to convert downs. Despite going b 2 out of 7 on third down conversions, the Longhorns got themselves back in the game with a late touchdown from Quinn Ewers to Jaydon Blue.

You would think that Ohio State would kneel on the ball with .30 seconds left in half, but nope they were aggressive. Will Howard hit TreVeyon Henderson with a screen throw, which went for a 75-yard touchdown run to take a 14-7 lead going into the locker room.

Going into the second half, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian wanted his team to minimize costly penalties and not give up big plays like they did, right before the half. The third quarter was a nightmare for Ewers as he was rushed, hurried, and was on the ground more than standing in the pocket. Despite being on his back majority of the third, Ewers was making the right reads with using Ohio State's aggression against them and throwing the ball to the flat, which helped them score a touchdown to a wide-open Blue on a wheel route to tie up the game.

After Ohio State scored a touchdown, there was a lot of pressure on Texas, but Ewers handed it perfectly. They marched down the field and was in the redzone within a four-minute span for a potential score with three minutes left in regulation. Texas had two PI calls that went their way but could not punch the ball in on a third and goal. On a fourth and goal, Ewers had the ball stripped from him and Ohio ran it back to put the nail in the casket on Texas' Cinderella season.

Ewers finished the game 23 out of 39 for 283 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 pick
