On Tuesday, Clemson Tigers added another piece to their defensive front with the commitment of defensive lineman Devarrick Woods.

During the process, the former Texas State defender also attracted interest from Florida State, Florida, NC State and Colorado. After weighing his options, he decided to join the Tigers

Last season, Woods played in 11 games for Texas State, recording 16 tackles and one sack. Having previously attended Hinds Community College and Texas State, the 6-foot-3, 290-pound defensive tackle was granted an additional year of eligibility this spring.

At Hinds Community College, Woods had a productive junior college career before arriving at Texas State. In nine games, he totaled 43 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks and three pass breakups to earn first-team All-MACCC honors. During the 2023 season, he also had 23 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks.

With West Georgia transfer Kourtney Kelly sidelined by an ACL injury earlier this spring, Woods adds depth at defensive tackle.

Since the end of last season, Clemson has added 11 transfer portal players, 10 of them on defense. Clemson is also expected to sign junior college defensive tackle Andy Burburija this summer, making Woods the fourth defensive tackle added from the portal.

Clemson's defensive line will benefit from Woods' size and experience as he disrupts plays in the backfield. His strength and agility enable him to effectively plug gaps, making establishing a running game challenging for opposing offenses. As the Tigers continue to bolster their defense, Woods' addition provides them with the depth and versatility they need.
