Clemson has a potential star on their hands

The team's starting quarterback was named earlier this week by head coach Dabo Swinney for Saturday's game against North Carolina (2-0 overall, 0-0 ACC) at Memorial Stadium. For the first time since Steve Fuller and Willie Jordan over 50 years ago, a freshman quarterback has started for Clemson so early in the season.

Clemson quarterback Christopher Vizzina started the first two games after winning the position in the preseason. Vizzina left Saturday's game against Georgia Southern after an interception in the first quarter. Vizzina, a redshirt junior, was unable to feel his elbow after an injury, Swinney told the ACC Network at halftime. To be honest, he hasn't really impressed in that short time frame.

Reynolds entered the game. He fumbled at the Georgia Southern 10 on his first possession, but the more he played, the more Swinney liked it. Although the offense looked far from fluid, Reynolds led five field goal drives and Clemson won 22-7.

Reynolds has a real chance to come into Saturday's game and set the tone. If he can move the chains with his legs and arm and protect the football, Clemson's defense should carry the load against a tough opponent. A composed, accurate performance could spark the offense and bolster the locker room.
