Going into their first match-up in the FIBA World Cup tournament against China, Team USA would have to overcome a height difference in the post. China had a lot of taller players that would affect how Team USA would play. Prior to tipoff, Coach Kara Lawson sated that she wanted her team to set aside their egos and play team ball, meaning be aggressive with their strengths.

The first few minutes of the game, you could see Team USA trying to find their footing. Chelsea Gray, Kahleah Copper, and Stewie got their offense with some outside shooting. It seemed like once one three went down, the basket had gotten bigger for Team USA, They turned it on and built a double-digit lead heading into the second quarter. Team USA's offense got a bit stagnant in the second quarter. Too many threes were shot without swinging the ball around to find a higher percentage shit. Their lead was cut to eight, but Team USA finished the quarter on 17-6 run.

The second half of the game for Team USA was more of a grind out half. Each time it seemed like Team USA would break free, China would make a run of their own. I guess Paige Bueckers was like, let me take over the game and did on both sides of the ball. PB helped Team USA go on a 14-6 run to go up 20. After it was all said and done, Team USA went onto win 94-61
