Sparks Add Versatility in 2026 WNBA Draft

The Los Angeles Sparks leaned into versatility and shooting in the 2026 WNBA Draft, selecting Ta’Niya Latson, Chance Gray, and Amelia Hassett in the second and third rounds.

Latson, taken 20th overall, stands out right away. After three strong seasons at Florida State, the Miami native made the move to South Carolina and helped lead the Gamecocks to a national championship. From a Florida perspective, it’s been interesting to watch her growth over the last few years, so seeing her land in Los Angeles feels like a natural next step. She averaged 14.1 points this season while adjusting to a different role.

During the Sparks’ virtual post-draft media availability, General Manager Raegan Pebley kept coming back to Latson’s explosiveness and defensive presence, two things that could help her find her way into the rotation.

The Sparks followed with Ohio State guard Chance Gray, a steady perimeter shooter, and Kentucky forward Amelia Hassett, who adds size and the ability to stretch the floor.

Listening in, the emphasis didn’t feel like it was about chasing a headline pick. It was more about fit and putting together pieces that complement each other.

It also makes you think about how past moves shaped this draft. The Sparks dealt their 2026 third overall pick in 2024 for Kia Nurse, who ended up being with the team for just one season. Without that lottery spot, this class feels more about depth than star power.

Not flashy, but intentional.
