New COVID-19 safety protocol for the Olympics

Tokyo- On Wednesday, the International Olympic Committee shared their new COVID-19 safety playbook for the Olympic games.

To ensure everyone is safe participating in the games, athletes will have to test daily, avoid large group gatherings, practice socially distancing, test twice prior to coming into Tokyo, and are required to stay in the Olympic village, venues that are selected for the athletes, as well as training centers. Athletes do not have to quarantine for 14 days.

With increased COVID cases and the vaccine not getting to Japan quickly, the IOC may go into a "Bubble" type of format to keep everyone safe. The "Bubble" format is just an option at this current moment. If cases can decrease, the IOC is thinking about letting limited fans in the stands, but they will be making that decision in June.
