Prior to the season opener, a lot of people were excited to see if Victor Wembanyama could put more tricks into his bag of tricks. During the summer, he put in work with NBA Legends as well as got a different perspective from Kevin Garnett, who told him to just be himself and let the game come to him.
Against the Mavericks, Stretch was on one and there was nothing that Dallas could do to stop Wembanyama from getting to his spots on the floor, getting second chance opportunities, and put the Mavericks in a spin cycle. He finished the game with 40 points and 15 rebounds. San Antonio played Spurs' basketball and was very effective from the three-point money zone, shooting around 42%. From start to finish, the Spurs' put their stamp on the pace of the game and went onto win 125-92.
On the other side of the rock, the rookie Cooper Flag did not have much of an impact in his NBA debut. He had a couple of turnovers, could not find his rhythm and struggled to put the ball in the basket. He finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
