More Than a Groove: SlapBak’s “It’s Only America” Is the Protest Anthem We Need

In a time where there is a lot of tension in the country and around the globe, music serves a big purpose to lighten the mood. Jara Harris, who is one of the members in the group SlapBak had this to say after their new single It's Only America was released.

“I wrote it back in 2019 after hearing people at political rallies shouting to ‘send them back,’” Harris recalls, referencing the chants targeting four congresswomen of color. “It made me think what does loving your country really mean?” For Harris, love of country isn’t about blind allegiance. It’s about accountability, community, and the courage to challenge what isn’t working. That message pulses through every beat of “It’s Only America,” a gritty, emotionally raw track born from frustration, reflection, and ultimately, love.

The single has a very nostalgia 70's theme and very uplifting. As I said before, music brings people together.
