A crisp and beautiful Thursday evening of draft night, hundreds of New York Jets season ticket holders and VIPs at Pier 17 in Lower Manhattan attending the Jets' Draft party. The atmosphere was pure Gang Green. Fans in jerseys, hoodies, and custom hats packed the space, sipping Jets-branded wine and enjoying an open bar while grazing on a solid spread of food. The party was built for one purpose: watching the NFL Draft together and dreaming about the franchise’s next chapter. And all eyes were locked on the No. 2 overall pick.
Most of the crowd had one player that they wanted drafted by the Jets and that was Arvell Reese. The consensus among the faithful was that the dynamic prospect was the clear choice to inject talent and excitement into a roster hungry for a turnaround. When the selection was announced and the Jets instead took David Bailey, the reaction inside Pier 17 was unmistakably muted. A few scattered cheers went up, but there were no sustained roars and surprisingly few boos — just a collective, awkward pause that felt like cautious curiosity mixed with quiet letdown.
I was able to talk with host Bart Scott, the former Jets linebacker and fan favorite, for an immediate reaction. Scott didn’t hesitate. With his signature energy he declared, “That’s the best pick! I hear Arvell Reese isn’t a very smart dude.”
The night’s plot twist arrived moments later. The cross-town New York Giants used their first-round selection to scoop up the very player Jets fans had been clamoring for. A loud, collective sigh rippled through the Pier 17 crowd — the unmistakable sound of disappointment from people who just watched their rival land the guy they wanted.
Still, the evening wasn’t about dwelling on what-ifs. It was about hope, and the Jets are entering 2026 with plenty of it. Veteran quarterback Geno Smith returns after resurrecting his career, bringing experience and leadership to a team that believes it has the pieces to finally become a legitimate threat in the AFC East and beyond. New additions, a revamped roster, and another high draft pick have fans believing this could be the year the franchise takes a real step forward.
Time will tell if Bailey becomes the cornerstone the front office envisions or the Giants end up looking smart for grabbing Reese, one truth never changes on a night like this: Jets fans remain fiercely loyal! As the party wrapped and the chants started up again, the familiar roar echoed across the pier.
