NEW YORK — June 1, 2026 — The WNBA is set to tip off the sixth annual Commissioner’s Cup presented by Coinbase on June 1, combining high-level competition with a league-wide commitment to community impact under the theme “Our Game, Our Legacy.”
As the WNBA celebrates its landmark 30th season, this year’s Commissioner’s Cup shines a spotlight on the organizations, leaders, and nonprofit partners that have helped shape the league’s influence far beyond the basketball court.
“The Commissioner’s Cup in-season tournament has become a premier tentpole series on the WNBA calendar because it offers elite competition showcasing conference matchups, high-caliber play, and meaningful community impact,” said Cathy Engelbert. “As we celebrate the WNBA’s 30th season, ‘Our Game, Our Legacy’ shines a light on the organizations and community leaders who have helped shape the identity and impact of WNBA teams over time.”
Championship Stakes and Tournament Format
The 2026 Commissioner’s Cup features a 49-game schedule running from June 1 through June 17. The top team from each conference will advance to the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Championship presented by Coinbase on June 30.
The championship game will be hosted by the finalist with the superior winning percentage during Cup play. Players will compete for a prize pool totaling $500,000, adding extra incentive to an already competitive midseason tournament.
Community Impact at the Center
While the Commissioner’s Cup has become one of the league’s most anticipated competitive events, community investment remains a cornerstone of the competition.
All 15 WNBA franchises will compete for more than $200,000 in charitable donations directed toward nonprofit organizations selected by each team. During pool play, winning teams earn a $3,000 donation for their chosen nonprofit, while losing teams receive $1,000. The championship-winning team’s nonprofit partner will receive an additional $10,000, while the runner-up’s organization will earn $5,000.
Teams Partner with Local Organizations
The initiative highlights organizations making meaningful impacts in communities across North America.
