David Benavidez demolished Demetrius Andrade to set up bout with Canelo

WBC super middleweight interim titleist David Benavidez continues to establish himself as one of the most dominant fighters in boxing. Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs), 26, demolished former two division champion Demetrius Andrade. Andrade (32-1, 19 KOs) is a guy most top fighters have avoided because he’s a throwback fighter with tons of skill. Andrade did some great things early in the fight to show why he was avoided. However, Benavidez has that debilitating style that breaks his opponents down.

Benavidez started slow. But as soon as he finished analyzing Andrade he began to press the accelerator. He cornered his opponent and with powerful punches forced Andrade's corner to stop the actions as soon as the sixth round ended.Benavidez took over the fight after Round 3 and pummeled Andrade, who went down in Round 4. Benavidez has won eight of his past 10 fights by stoppage. Benavidez has been looking for a mega fight against Alvarez, and the win on Saturday puts him closer in accomplishing that goal.

"I solidified myself as a champion, I want them to know who the real champion of the division is. Who wants to see the fight with Canelo? This new motivation made me stop the way I did," Benavidez said after the contest.

The way Benavidez has looked lately, him and Canelo could be the best fight that boxing can make in 2024. Benavidez 'older brother Jermall Charlo scored a wide unanimous decision (98-92, 99-91 and 100-90) over Jose Benavidez Jr. after a two-year absence from the ring. Charlo gave Benavidez no room to work and although he assured that his power did not show up tonight, he will return to fight three to four fights in 2024, no matter what division he decides  to fight at.

David Benavidez and Charlo certainly put an exciting capper on the last Showtime boxing PPV for the foreseeable future.
