The New York Yankees continued their dominance over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night, cruising to a 7-0 victory at Kauffman Stadium to complete a three-game sweep. Behind a vintage performance from ace Gerrit Cole and timely hitting throughout the lineup, New York improved its strong start to the 2026 season while extending its winning streak against Kansas City to 14 games.
Cole looked dominant in just his second start since returning from Tommy John surgery. The Yankees’ right-hander struck out 10 batters over 6 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing only four hits and issuing no walks while throwing just 79 pitches. His fastball command and sharp breaking pitches kept Royals hitters off balance all night.
Offensively, New York got contributions up and down the order. Ben Rice drove in three runs, including a key two-run single in the seventh inning that helped break the game open. Ryan McMahon added a two-run homer in the eighth, while Paul Goldschmidt chipped in with an RBI as the Yankees steadily pulled away.
The Yankees also flashed their defense early in the game when Aaron Judge fired a perfect throw from right field to cut down a Royals runner at home plate in the third inning, preserving the scoreless tie at the time.
Kansas City struggled to generate offense once again, continuing a rough stretch in May. Royals starter Noah Cameron kept the game close early, allowing two runs over five-plus innings, but the bullpen could not contain New York’s bats late.
By the end of the series, the Yankees had outscored the Royals 26-4 over the three games and 50-10 in their six meetings this season, showing why they remain one of the American League’s top contenders.
For Yankees fans, the biggest takeaway may have been Cole’s return to form. If the former Cy Young winner continues pitching like this, New York’s rotation could become one of the most dangerous staffs in baseball heading into the summer.
