Wings beat Dream 85 to 73 despite WNBA historical most technical fouls in regular season game

As Arike Ogunbowale rose from Dallas’ bench due to her second technical foul resulting in an ejection, she brought cheers to the arena with all smiles and even stopped to sign an autograph for a fan before her night was over.

Arike contributed 21 points and shot 3 for 7 from three-point range, but it was her leadership on and off the court that will be remembered. Dallas had 16 turnovers but held Atlanta to 22.2% from the three-point line, and outrebounded the Dream 46 to 33.

The game was officiated with controversial calls that included five defensive 3-second calls, one delay of game, and four individual technical fouls totaling ten technical fouls, the most in a regular season game in WNBA history. Of the ten technical fouls called, 6 of the 10 were called on the Dallas Wings. The 85 to 73 statement win snaps the Dallas Wings’ three-game losing streak and now notches the second victory over Atlanta after beating the Dream 85 to 78 in the first game of the season at College Park Center.

Head Coach Latricia Trammell was thrilled with the team’s defensive effort. She continues to acknowledge the defense is coming along and was happy to have the Wing’s hold their opponent to under 33% from the field. Coach Trammell was thrilled Kalani Brown contributed huge minutes scoring 11 points and being aggressive on the glass ending the night with 14 rebounds.

Her two blocks brought a jolt of energy to the Dallas bench and throughout the arena. All-Star candidate Satou Sabally had an off night shooting 2 for 11 from the field, but in addition to her 10 points, she was able to record 4 assists and 4 rebounds. Her defensive aggression was noticeable with every possession and ensured she took moments to help younger players Maddy Siegrist and Veronica Burton understand and learn from each defensive set. Veteran Natasha Howard led the way scoring 23 points and has earned her way to being on the WNBA All-Star ballot with her stellar play and high efficient shooting The Wings now even their season record to 6-6 and hit the road for the next three games (back to back in Los Angeles vs. Sparks, then Phoenix Mercury) before returning July 2nd vs. Washington Mystics.
