There has been a lot of talk surrounding the battle for Clemson's quarterback position since Cade Klubnik was selected by the New York Jets in the 2026 NFL Draft.
For the time being, that chatter appears to have been silenced.
During the 2026 Clemson Media Outing this past Tuesday, offensive coordinator Chad Morris told reporters, “Coach Swinney made it clear: Coming out of spring, [Christopher Vizzina] is our guy. He’ll be our guy starting fall camp.”
The clarification of who the starter will be heading into fall camp comes after months of deliberation by both fans and media. Swinney made it clear that Taite Reynolds impressed throughout the spring, surpassing others for the backup spot.
There were many guys battling for that second spot. He cleared that out and came out of that smoke first with that group. So now he’s got a big summer ahead, and he's getting better. But I don’t think [Vizzina’s] will go backwards. So, it’ll be an exciting, competitive summer and fall camp.”
Vizzina, despite having the more heralded name, also lacks in-game experience. The 6-foot-4 signal caller has played 14 games over the past four years, most of which have been mop-up duties. However, he started just one game in his career, against SMU last season.
In fact, he threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns. However, the poor pass-defense of the Mustangs and small sample size means that he, too, is still a work in progress, like Reynolds himself.
