The Toronto Tempo are already looking ahead, announcing plans for a dedicated performance centre at Exhibition Place that’s set to open in 2027. It’ll serve as the team’s full-time training home, but it’s also being built with the community in mind, which feels like a big part of what they’re trying to do as the WNBA expands into Canada.
From what’s been shared so far, this isn’t just a standard practice facility. The plans include two WNBA regulation courts, full training and recovery spaces, and a setup designed specifically around what players actually need day to day. There’s also a focus on making it accessible year-round, not just for the team, but for local programs and grassroots development, which is something you don’t always see prioritized at this level.
Tempo GM Monica Wright Rogers talked about it as more than just a facility, calling it a foundation for sustained success, and that seems to be the bigger picture here. It’s not just about getting ready for their first season in 2026, it’s about building something that lasts and actually grows the game around it.
There’s still more to come with construction timelines and details, but early on, this feels like a strong step toward establishing a real presence for women’s basketball in Toronto.
