The New York Yankees continued their hot streak Friday night, rolling to an 8-2 victory over the Athletics at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento. The win marked the Yankees’ fifth consecutive victory and further strengthened their position in the American League playoff race.
The Yankees wasted no time taking control of the game. New York capitalized on defensive miscues by the Athletics in the first inning, building an early lead before adding power throughout the night. Veteran first baseman Paul Goldschmidt delivered the biggest blow with a three-run home run, while Ryan McMahon and Ben Rice each added solo shots.
Ben Rice had one of his best performances of the season, collecting four hits and driving in two runs. Aaron Judge continued his MVP-caliber campaign by adding two RBIs, helping the Yankees offense pile up eight runs.
“We’re just playing good baseball right now,” Judge said after the game. “Everybody is contributing up and down the lineup, and that’s what makes us dangerous.”
On the mound, Carlos Rodón earned his first win of the season. The left-hander worked six strong innings, allowing just one run while keeping the Athletics’ hitters off balance throughout the night.
“It felt good to get back out there and help the team win,” Rodón said. “The offense gave us a cushion early, and my job was to attack the strike zone and keep us in control.”
For Oakland, rookie slugger Nick Kurtz provided one of the few bright spots with a solo home run. Rookie Henry Bolte also impressed, recording a career-high three hits. However, the Athletics struggled to generate consistent offense and dropped their fourth straight game.
Former Yankees pitcher Luis Severino had a rough outing against his old club. He left the game early with right arm soreness after allowing four unearned runs in the opening inning. The loss dropped him to 0-3 against New York this season.
