The Dematha effect!

The DMV area is well known for producing a high number of tremendous basketball players, such as Kevin Durant, Adrian Dantley, and Victor Oladipo. One of the biggest black-top basketball leagues is the Goodman League, which is held annually in southeast Washington, DC. This league has had some of the top NBA players show up and show out. This event is just another reminder of how much talent this area has groomed and the potential it has to grow even bigger. In order for any county or city to continuously manufacture elite-level basketball players, it must have exceptional high school programs with terrific coaching and an outstanding culture.

Dematha High School is sitting on the throne as the top high school basketball program in the DMV area when it comes to having the best players. Most recent DeMatha graduates Hunter Dickinson and Jahmir Young just finished up another full season at their respective universities (Kansas,Maryland). Victor Oladipo played extremely well at Indiana University, and he was also playing amazing in the NBA before suffering major injuries. The parents of local athletes know that it is a dream for their children to not only play a sport but to just attend school. Earlier in March, Dematha won another Maryland private school championship after a tougher than expected season. In the championship, Dematha fought off a comeback from Bullis to get the double overtime win. The dominance of Dematha seems to be decreasing, but the DMV is steadily improving, and everyone is starting to notice.
