Chiefs Draft recap 2024

The back-to-back Super Bowl champion, Kansas City Chiefs, were able to trade up to get the 28th overall draft pick in the first round with the Buffalo Bills.  With that draft pick, the Chiefs selected wide receiver Xavier Worthy of the Texas Longhorns.  Head Coach Andy Reid evaluated Xavier Worthy, a top player on their draft board.  Andy Reid stated, “We think he’s heck of a football player, number one.  He’ll end up playing wide receiver and be a special teams returner.

He gives Pat (Mahomes) another weapon there to use.” Kansas City Chiefs General Manager, Brett Veach received full support from Coach Reid when making the jump to draft Worthy, “He’s got a real good feel for the people that have interest in that position and that player and where he needs to go to attack it,” Coach Reid emphasized.  Xavier Worthy possesses good route running, good height, and has a toughness that was underrated during his draft evaluation process.  His football IQ impressed Coach Reid,

He’s got great football instinct, and he’s a very smart football player.  In this offense, you have to be able to do that and have those characteristics.”  Kansas City adds another speedster to the roster on the opposite side of free agent signing, Marquis “Hollywood” Brown.  “Both of these two can run well.  It doesn’t hurt to have downfield speed.  We’ve functioned without the great speed down the field and done well.  If you have an opportunity to get somebody that you think is a good player, just not a speed guy but a good football player, I think you probably need to take advantage of that,” Reid explained about both Worthy and Brown being new additions to their offense.
