The Chiefs thumps the Houston Texans in home opener 34-20

Kansas- The Kansas City Chiefs were hitting on all cylinders, as they defeat the Houston Texans 34-20.



In the first half, the Houston Texans struck first blood as running back David Johnson bounced to the outside and scored on a 19-yard scamper down the sideline to go up 7-0 against the Chiefs in the first quarter. On the Chiefs' second possession, the Chiefs' drove the ball in 11 plays for 75 yards to get a touchdown catch by Travis Kelce in the back of the endzone to tie the game up, 7-7. Towards the end of the half, Sammy Watkins scored on a two yard touchdown play to put the Chiefs up 14-7. The Texans attempted to put points on the board with a field goal but missed it, as it went wide right. Kansas City took advantage of the great field position and went down the field in two plays to get a field goal attempt. The field goal attempt was good and the Chiefs went into the half with a 17-7 lead.


Kansas City scored in the first five minutes in the second half, as running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire took it to the house on a 27-yard run to put the Chiefs in a demanding lead, 24-7. Deshawn Watson attempted to jump start his team and get a drive going in the fourth quarter, but he threw an interception in double coverage. The Chiefs took advantage of the turnover and Patrick Mahomes hooked up with Tyreek Hill in the back end of the endzone to go up 31-7. The Texans put together a decent drive, as Watson and Jordan Akins hooked up for a touchdown to make the score a little respectable, 31-13.With two minutes left in the game, the Texans scored another touchdown to cut the lead down to eleven points, 31-20. The Chiefs kicked a field goal to finish the game 31-20 and get their first win of the 2020 season.


Patrick Mahomes finished the game 24 out of 32 for 211 yards and three touchdowns. Helaire finished the game with 25 attempts for 138 yards.
