South Carolina cruises in a victory in exhibition play

South Carolina's women's basketball team dominated Clayton State by a score of 126-42, in a preseason exhibition on Monday evening. For the No. 1 Gamecocks, sophomore sensation MiLaysia Fulwiley and super freshman Joyce Edwards led the way with outstanding performances. Fulwiley scored 21, while Edwards posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, along with a game-high six assists. Te-Hina Paopao added 13 points and five assists to Te-Ssa Johnson's 15 points.

Coach Dawn Staley used the same starting five as last week in the first exhibition game, in Memphis. It featured Sania Feagin replaced last year star Kamilla Cardoso in the lineup. It also featured returning starters Raven Johnson, Bree Hall, Chloe Kitts and Te-Hina Paopao.

The impressive performances by MiLaysia Fulwiley and Joyce Edwards highlight their potential to be key contributors for the Gamecocks this season. Fulwiley's scoring ability and Edwards' well-rounded game signal a strong offensive future for the team.

Additionally, Te-Hina Paopao and Te-Ssa Johnson's contributions demonstrate the depth and versatility of Coach Staley's roster, promising a competitive edge as they head into the regular season. The 2024-25 season officially opens on Nov. 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas against Michigan.
