Naomi Osaka wins first round in straight sets 6-4, 7(7)-6(4)

Naomi Osaka looked out of sync in the first round against Patricia Maria Tig despite the 6-4, 7(7)-6(4) victory.

Osaka has had a very long three weeks in which she has not looked like herself. Coming into the first round of the French Open, Osaka was out of sync with her serves and had 35 unforced errors, which kept Tig into the match.

Osaka finished off the first set a little bit shaky but seemed like she gained a little confidence heading into the second set. The second set, Tig pushed Osaka and Osaka had to dig deep and overcome mistakes..As the match intensified, Osaka was getting frustrated that her backhand was not there and had to pull some grit and some amazing cross shots out of her bag. Eventually, Osaka defeated Tig and had this to say about her performance.

"I would say it's a work in progress. Hopefully the more I play, the better I get, said Osaka.

Osaka advance to the second round and will face Ana Bogdan .
