The Los Angeles Lakers have re-signed center Christian Koloko to a two-way contract, adding much-needed depth to their frontcourt as they continue to round out the roster ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Koloko returns after appearing in 37 games for the Lakers last season, averaging 2.4 points and 2.5 rebounds in just over nine minutes per contest. The 25-year-old showed flashes of his potential in limited minutes, particularly in a strong January stretch that included an 8-point, 8-rebound, 3-assist outing against Portland, and a near double-double performance against Denver.
Originally drafted 33rd overall by the Toronto Raptors in 2022, Koloko’s career was briefly derailed due to a blood clot issue that sidelined him for nearly two years. After receiving clearance to return in October, the Lakers eased him back into action, but injuries opened the door for increased opportunities — and Koloko made the most of them.
In the G League with the South Bay Lakers, he impressed with averages of 14.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks across 10 games. He also made a solid showing at Summer League, showcasing his rim protection and athleticism.
A native of Cameroon and former Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year at Arizona, Koloko is a mobile, rim-running big with upside as a lob threat and shot blocker. With the Lakers still needing reliable frontcourt help behind Anthony Davis, Koloko’s return offers a promising developmental option. It remains to be seen how much time he’ll spend on the active roster, but his skillset could be valuable in the right matchups.
