Julia Roddar Named to Sweden Roster for World Cup Qualifier
Julia Roddar has been named to the roster for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers for Sweden’s National Team. Sweden Women’s National Team Head Coach Peter Gerhardsson made the announcement on Tuesday, before qualifiers against Slovakia and Georgia.
Having won a silver medal in Tokyo, Sweden is ramping up for their quest for the 2023 World Cup against Slovakia on September 17th in Senec, Slovakia at 11:30am ET. They will then take on Georgia in Gothenburg, Sweden on September 21 at 12:30pm ET.
Roddar has 11 caps for the senior national team. Most recently, she appeared in two matches during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She joined the national team at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France and has been on several team sheets for recent European qualification games. She also appeared at the U-19 and U-17 levels, where she featured in 30 matches and recorded five goals.
Just days before the 2021 NWSL preseason officially began, the Washington Spirit signed Roddar, a midfielder who was a part of the team that finished in 3rd place at the 2019 World Cup, to a two-year deal.
Roddar has experience playing soccer in the US, as she split a collegiate soccer career between time with Wisconsin and Florida-Gulf Coast. After the end of her time at FGCU, she moved back to Sweden, spending several years with Kvarnsvedens IK before moving to Kopparbergs/Göteborg in 2018. While there, she was a part of two straight runner-up finishes before the club won the 2020 season. Roddar also played in the Champions League this past year.
