Argentina was defeated by Spain in the World Cup Final 1-0

After a thrilling game between France and England on Saturday, America turned their eyes and head towards Sunday World Cup Finals between Spain and Argentina. Coming into this game, Argentina were the favorites to win the cup, just on the aspect of their strikers and their ability to crowd the goal and find a crease to get the ball into the net.

Let's head into the game. For the most part Argentine was on the defensive side of the ball. Despite Spain having possession for 62% of the first half, Argentina's defense held their water. They held Spain to two on-goal shots.

Coming out of the locker room, Argetina wanted to dictate the pace of the game, meaning that they were going to put more pressure on Spain and take chances. Thigs got a bit chippy in the 50th minute when one of Spain players got injured. Both teams started pushing each other to the point that the ref had to pull out a yellow card. A couple minutes later, Argentina's goalkeeper had two great saves which kept Argentina's confidence up. Emiliano Martinez tied the World Cup record with eight saves.

The surprising stat in this game was Argentina did not have any on-goal shots and struggled to keep possessions when they did get a chance to do something with it.

In extra time, thigs got a bit wanky. Spain had scored a goal, but it was called off because a foul scored before the goal was scored. Spain got their first goal of the game in the second half of extra time. as F. Torres hit a crossing strike to beat out Martinez for the goal. Argentina had two shots that missed the net late. Spain went onto win the game 1-0
