Doja Cat will host the 2021 VMAs
MTV announced that superstar Doja Cat will host for the first time at the 2021 MTV ‘VMAs’. She is also up for five awards, including two of the night’s highest honors “Video of the Year” and “Artist of the Year.”
She’s also amongst the stacked lineup of ‘VMAs’ performers that include Chlöe, Shawn Mendes, Twenty One Pilots, Camila Cabello, Lil Nas X, LORDE, Machine Gun Kelly, and Olivia Rodrigo. Additional performers to be announced soon.
Doja Cat made her first upload to Soundcloud in 2013 at just 16-years-old. Her August 2018 release of “Mooo!” catapulted her into the mainstream and was met with critical acclaim. Doja Cat released her sophomore album Hot Pink in November 2019. The album was a platinum success with over 12.5 billion streams worldwide. Hot Pink features “Juicy” which hit #1 at Rhythm radio, “Say So” her Grammy nominated #1 smash record and “Streets”, the viral sensation that soundtracked the ‘Silhouette Challenge,’ one of the biggest TikTok trends to date. The success of “Say So” which hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been RIAA certified 4x platinum and streamed over 6.1 billion times catapulted Doja into global superstardom.
Justin Bieber leads in award nominations with seven, and Megan Thee Stallion has six. Billie Eilish, BTS, Doja Cat, Drake, Giveon, Lil Nas X and Olivia Rodrigo have five each. The categories include Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Push Performance of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Pop, Best Hip Hop, Best Rock, Best Alternative, Best Latin, Best R&B, Best K-Pop, Video for Good, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Visual Effects, Best Choreography, and Best Editing.
The 2021 “VMAs” return to New York City airing LIVE from Barclays Center on Sunday, September 12 at 8p ET.
