The Los Angeles Dodgers opened their weekend series in Milwaukee with a rough 5-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night, as the Brewers jumped out early and never looked back. William Contreras led the way for Milwaukee with three hits and a three-run homer, helping hand the Dodgers another frustrating defeat on their road trip.
Milwaukee wasted little time getting on the scoreboard against Dodgers starter Justin Wrobleski. The Brewers erupted for four runs in the first inning, highlighted by Contreras’ blast to left field that quickly energized the crowd at American Family Field. Milwaukee added another run in the second inning to build a 5-0 advantage.
The Dodgers offense struggled to capitalize on opportunities throughout the night. Los Angeles stranded nine runners and went hitless in seven chances with runners in scoring position. Rookie Brewers starter Logan Henderson kept the Dodgers quiet across five scoreless innings while striking out seven batters.
Shohei Ohtani provided the lone bright spot offensively for Los Angeles. Ohtani recorded a hit and drove in the Dodgers’ only run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. He also added another stolen base to continue his strong all-around season.
The loss was made even tougher for the Dodgers after Max Muncy exited the game after being hit on the wrist by a pitch in the eighth inning. Initial X-rays were negative, and manager Dave Roberts said the team expects Muncy to miss only a few days while swelling subsides.
Despite the defeat, the Dodgers remain one of the top teams in the National League and will look to bounce back later this weekend as the series against Milwaukee continues.
