The Los Angeles Dodgers opened their road series in Minnesota with a tightly contested 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Monday night at Target Field, using timely power and outstanding pitching to secure the win.
The Dodgers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. On the second pitch of the game, Shohei Ohtani launched a leadoff home run, his 17th of the season, giving Los Angeles an immediate 1-0 advantage. The Twins answered in the bottom of the first when Byron Buxton connected for a solo homer of his own.
With the game tied entering the sixth inning, Freddie Freeman delivered the decisive blow, crushing a solo home run that put the Dodgers ahead for good. Freeman’s blast accounted for the winning run in a game where offense was at a premium.
While the home runs grabbed the headlines, the story of the night was the Dodgers’ pitching staff. After opener Will Klein allowed Buxton’s first-inning homer, left-hander Eric Lauer was sensational in relief, throwing six no-hit innings and completely shutting down Minnesota’s lineup. His dominant outing allowed the Dodgers to protect their slim lead and improve their record to 50-29.
Ohtani finished 1-for-4 with the leadoff homer, while Freeman added his game-winning shot as Los Angeles managed just enough offense against Twins starter Zebby Matthews, who otherwise pitched effectively.
The victory continues a season-long trend for the Dodgers, who have excelled in close games and once again relied on elite pitching and star power from the top of their lineup. Los Angeles will look to secure the series win Tuesday as they continue their road trip through Minnesota.
