Ty Simpson puts on a great performance against the Chiefs

Rookie quarterback Ty Simpson helped lead the Los Angeles Rams to a 20–12 preseason victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday. The Rams’ defense kept Kansas City out of the end zone, while a strong return game consistently gave Los Angeles favorable field position.

Simpson, the Rams’ first-round draft pick this year, delivered an impressive professional debut. After replacing Stetson Bennett following the opening two drives, Simpson looked poised and comfortable, taking what the Chiefs’ defense gave him and efficiently moving the offense.

He finished 21-of-25 for 190 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with running back Dean Connors on both scores.

Rookie tight end Max Klare led the Rams with seven receptions, while wide receiver Brennan Presley paced the receiving corps with 58 yards.

Defensively, Los Angeles bent but never broke. The Rams held the Chiefs to just four field goals and did not surrender a touchdown all afternoon.

One of the biggest sparks came on special teams. Xavier Smith broke loose for a 40-yard punt return, flipping the field and setting up the Rams’ final touchdown drive.

The performance gave Los Angeles plenty to build on, particularly with Simpson showing early promise in his first NFL action and the defense keeping the Chiefs out of the end zone.

The Rams return to Los Angeles next Saturday to host the New Orleans Saints at SoFi Stadium in their preseason home opener. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
