The Arizona Diamondbacks opened their home series in emphatic fashion Monday night, rolling past the San Francisco Giants 12-2 at Chase Field behind a first-inning grand slam from Nolan Arenado and a much-needed strong outing from Zac Gallen.

Arizona wasted no time setting the tone. After loading the bases in the opening inning, Arenado crushed a grand slam off Giants starter Robbie Ray, giving the Diamondbacks an early 4-0 lead and igniting one of the club’s best offensive performances of the season. It marked Arenado’s seventh home run of the year and the seventh grand slam of his career.

“It was huge to jump on them early,” Arenado said after the game. “We’ve been looking for that big inning and tonight everything clicked.”

The Diamondbacks never let up. Arizona finished with 16 hits and matched a season-high with 12 runs. Gabriel Moreno added a two-run homer in the fifth inning, while rookie Ryan Waldschmidt delivered a career-high three hits. Ketel Marte, Corbin Carroll and Ildemaro Vargas each chipped in with multi-hit performances as the lineup overwhelmed San Francisco pitching from start to finish.

“We stayed aggressive all night,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “That’s the offense we know we’re capable of.”

On the mound, Zac Gallen turned in one of his sharper outings of the season. The right-hander allowed two runs across six innings to earn his first victory since April 1. Gallen mixed his pitches effectively and kept the Giants from building any momentum after Arizona’s early offensive explosion.
