The Arizona Diamondbacks saw a late comeback effort go for naught Friday night as the Seattle Mariners walked off with a 7-6 victory in 10 innings at T-Mobile Park. Randy Arozarena delivered the game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the 10th, handing Arizona a heartbreaking loss after a back-and-forth contest.

Seattle struck first when J.P. Crawford led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run off Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen. Crawford continued his big night with a second homer in the fifth inning, recording the first multi-home-run game of his career. Julio Rodríguez added a two-run blast, while Luke Raley chipped in with a solo homer as the Mariners’ offense stayed aggressive throughout the evening.

Arizona battled back behind strong performances from several key hitters. Geraldo Perdomo launched a solo home run and finished with three hits, while catcher Gabriel Moreno also collected three hits and delivered a crucial two-run double that helped bring the Diamondbacks back into the game.

Trailing 5-4 entering the late innings, the Diamondbacks managed to tie the game and eventually grabbed a 6-5 lead. However, Seattle answered in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings before Arozarena’s decisive hit in the 10th ended the contest.

Postgame Quotes

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo emphasized his club’s resilience despite the loss.

“We kept fighting all night and gave ourselves a chance to win. That’s what this team does.”

Perdomo reflected on Arizona’s comeback effort.

“We never feel out of a game. We battled back, but they got the last hit.”

Mariners manager Dan Wilson praised his club’s persistence.

“Our guys kept answering. It was a great team win against a very good ballclub.”

Looking Ahead

The loss snapped some of the momentum Arizona had built during a stretch in which it had won 10 of its previous 11 games. The Diamondbacks will look to even the series on Saturday when Ryne Nelson takes the mound against Seattle’s Bryan Woo.

Despite the defeat, Arizona’s offense showed plenty of life, collecting timely hits throughout the night. The challenge now will be turning those opportunities into a series-clinching victory over the weekend.
