The New York Yankees were shut out Wednesday afternoon, falling 7-0 to the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards in a frustrating finish to their road series.
The loss was made even tougher for New York after ace Max Fried exited the game early with left elbow soreness after just three innings. Fried allowed three runs on five hits while striking out two before being removed for further evaluation, creating concern for a Yankees rotation that has been one of the club’s strengths this season.
Baltimore jumped ahead in the second inning when Coby Mayo doubled home a run, then added two more in the third behind an Adley Rutschman sacrifice fly and Pete Alonso RBI single. The Orioles kept the pressure on throughout the afternoon, highlighted by Rutschman’s two-run homer in the fifth inning that pushed the lead to 5-0. Blaze Alexander later added a two-run single in the sixth as Baltimore pulled away.
The Yankees offense never found momentum against Orioles starter Kyle Bradish, who tossed six scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. New York’s lone hit came on a double by Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the fifth inning, as the Yankees were held scoreless for the second time during their difficult 1-5 road trip.
Defensively, the Yankees also struggled, committing two errors in the loss. Anthony Volpe returned to the lineup but went hitless, while Aaron Judge and Paul Goldschmidt were unable to spark the offense.
Despite the rough afternoon, New York remains near the top of the American League standings with a 27-17 record. The bigger concern now shifts to Fried’s health as the Yankees await imaging results on the left-hander’s elbow.
