Clemson's wide receiver Tristan Smith revealed last week on social media that he will undergo surgery today following an injury.

Last week, Smith shared an Instagram story showing him inside Clemson's athletic training facility. He was accompanied by a message reflecting on the situation. "Just another chapter in my book that God is writing for me. Surgery on Tuesday and spirits are still high,” Smith wrote. “Thank you God.”

Smith joined Clemson for the 2025 season after a standout year at Southeast Missouri State. Smith emerged as one of the more productive receivers in the Football Championship Subdivision. During the 2024 RedHawks season, Smith recorded 76 receptions for 934 yards and six touchdowns.

That breakout season made Smith an attractive transfer target, eventually bringing him to Clemson for the 2025 season. Last year, he put on a show during Clemson's spring game that made him look like a breakout star for the season ahead, but things didn't work out for him as expected.

The season didn't work out as planned for the Tigers or Smith. The team finished with its most disappointing record in 15 years. The newcomer tallied 24 catches for 239 yards and one touchdown. Now entering the offseason following his first year with Clemson, Smith faces another challenge as he prepares for surgery and the recovery process that follows.

It may limit Smith's spring training and conditioning preparation for the upcoming season. However, if his recovery goes well, he could return stronger and more determined than ever. The resilience and positive mindset he possesses might help him overcome this setback.
