On the offensive side of the football, Clemson has landed SMU running back Chris Johnson Jr., the son of former NFL Offensive Player of The Year and 3x Pro Bowler Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson AKA CJ2K.
As the 10th transfer addition for the Tigers during this recent stretch, Johnson is the first portal commitment for new offensive coordinator Chad Morris.
The speedy Johnson adds to Clemson's running back room, which also includes rising sophomore Godeon Davidson. Johnson is one of the fastest backs in the country, listed at 6-foot, 185 pounds, and has shown big-play potential.
Johnson rushed for 479 yards and four touchdowns with SMU in 2025 while averaging more than seven yards per carry. He added 17 receptions for 180 yards and a touchdown, giving him five touchdowns in his first season with double-digit touches. The Mustangs' win at Death Valley was highlighted by Johnson's six carries for 59 yards and a touchdown. He also had four catches for 40 yards.
His addition brings explosive speed and versatility to Clemson's backfield, providing a dynamic option in their offensive schemes. With his ability to break away for big plays both as a rusher and a receiver, Johnson could become a key contributor and gamechanger for the Tigers. His presence will likely push the competition among the running backs, elevating the overall performance of the unit.
