The Las Vegas Aces fell to 4-3 on the 2025 WNBA regular season after a crushing 95-68 loss to the Golden State Valkyries on June 7. A'ja Wilson led the Aces with 17 points, while Chelsea Gray contributed 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, and rookie Aaliyah Nye hit three 3-pointers to finish with a season-high 13 points, her second consecutive game in double figures. However, Jewell Loyd and Jackie Young struggled, combining for just 9 points on 2-of-14 shooting. The Aces shot 36% from the field (22 of 62) and made only 6 of 25 (24%) from 3-point range.
Las Vegas head coach Becky Hammon was visibly frustrated with her team throughout the game, later telling the media, "Her team has a 'heart issue' that lacks effort."
For the Valkyries, Kayla Thornton had 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Veronica Burton and Monique Billings also recorded double-doubles. Burton contributed 14 points, a career-high 12 assists, and seven rebounds, while Billings added 14 points, 11 rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Cecilia Zandalasini scored 18 points, and Kate Martin had 12 for the expansion Valkyries, who set a franchise record for points in a game.
The Aces have to figure out their inconsistent play soon or it's going to become a major issue if they want to remain competitive. The team's lack of effort and poor shooting performance are clear indicators that changes need to be made. Coach Hammon's comments highlight the urgency of addressing these issues before they spiral out of control.
