On Sunday, Wings' rookie Azzi Fudd offered one of the more honest moments during a media presser. Fudd shared her thoughts about the physicality of the game and how she is trying to adjust “I thought you could be physical in the W, and anytime you touch somebody it’s a foul,” Fudd said.

Her comments highlight a common challenge for rookies and sometimes international players moving up to the pros. The league is known for its strength and physical play, but the way games are called often means players have to quickly change how they defend.

Another key focus early on has been closing out games. An area the Wings struggled with in previous seasons. Head coach Jose Fernandez has stressed how important it is to finish strong, especially when the team is ahead. Early preseason games have shown improvement, with the team looking more composed during late-game situations. Players like Aziaha James have already shown flashes of confidence, particularly in transition and attacking downhill. Those early moments point to the potential depth and versatility the Wings may lean on as the season approaches.

For a team working to balance growth and expectations, the preseason is a chance to build a strong foundation. The final scores may not matter much, but the habits they are building, from defensive discipline to offensive spacing, are already starting to shape what the Wings might become.

With the regular season approaching, the team is focused on growing, making adjustments, and building an identity that will last all season.
