Vic G Brings R&B, Afrobeat and Reggae Together at The DAT BOI Experience in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — R&B, Afrobeat and reggae artist Vic G is expanding his musical sound and the way audiences experience it with his latest single, “DAT BOI.”
The Cincinnati native celebrated the release with The DAT BOI Experience, an event held Aug. 25 at El Cid on Sunset in Hollywood that brought together musicians, entertainers, filmmakers and industry professionals for an evening built around music and visual storytelling.
Created by filmmaker and producer Zarian “King Z” Hadley, founder of Zakanda Entertainment, in collaboration with Green Boy Music, the event featured a red carpet, live performances and the premiere of the cinematic vertical music video for “DAT BOI.”
The guest list included Vic G, Mr. Suprize, Hadley, Lizzy Jeff, Ras Kass, Brandon Miree, E. Dee Dennis, Fik-shun (Dushaunt Stegall), Qbwoy, Baby Mahusay, Shawn Cornist, Cheryl K., Roney Boys, PR1ME, Louis Harden, Invinceable and Brooke Ivory, among others.
Vic G Takes “DAT BOI” From the Studio to the Stage
The centerpiece of the night came when Vic G performed “DAT BOI” alongside Jamaican reggae artist Mr. Suprize, backed by The Frequency Squad.
The performance highlighted the song's blend of contemporary R&B, Afrobeat and reggae — a combination that represents an evolution of Vic G's longtime soul and R&B foundation.
“With ‘DAT BOI,’ I wanted to create music that connects with people on an emotional level and brings different cultures together,” Vic G said. “Bringing this music to the stage and sharing it with an audience in Hollywood made the experience even more meaningful.”
The night also included a surprise appearance from dancehall and Billboard recording artist E. Dee Dennis, who joined the celebration with an unexpected live performance.
A Music Video Designed for the Vertical Era
The event extended beyond the stage with the premiere of the cinematic music video for “DAT BOI.”
Directed and produced by Hadley, the visual was created specifically in a 9:16 vertical format, placing it naturally within the viewing style audiences have become accustomed to on mobile devices and short-form video platforms.
“Vertical filmmaking allows us to rethink how audiences experience music visually,” Hadley said.
For Vic G, that broader presentation appears to match the direction of the music itself — taking an established R&B foundation and opening it to something bigger.
“I am excited for people to experience where the music is taking me,” Vic G said.
“DAT BOI,” featuring Binghi Canusee and Mr. Suprize, is available now through Green Boy Music and major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.
