Dodgers are in contention to take the division after defeating the Reds 4-0

The Los Angeles Dodgers moved another step closer to securing the National League West on Tuesday night, shutting out the Cincinnati Reds 4-0 behind a dominant performance from Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Yamamoto delivered one of his strongest outings of the season, allowing just one hit across seven scoreless innings while striking out seven and walking two. The victory improved Yamamoto to 14-8 on the season and helped Los Angeles improve to 92-59.

The Dodgers opened the scoring in the second inning when Hunter Feduccia delivered an RBI single, bringing Max Muncy home and giving Los Angeles an early 1-0 advantage.

The offense added some power in the third.

After Kyle Tucker drew a walk, Teoscar Hernández launched a two-run home run off Reds starter Rhett Lowder. Hernández's 15th homer of the season pushed the Dodgers' lead to 3-0 and gave Yamamoto plenty of breathing room. Los Angeles added its final run in the seventh when Alex Freeland connected for a solo home run, extending the advantage to 4-0.

Freddie Freeman also provided an encouraging performance after dealing with right knee soreness. Freeman collected three hits after entering the night just 3-for-30 over his recent stretch.

Yamamoto Takes Control

Cincinnati had very few answers for Yamamoto.

Elly De La Cruz recorded the Reds' only hit against him with a third-inning double. Yamamoto responded by retiring the next 10 batters he faced and kept Cincinnati off the scoreboard throughout his seven innings.

Brock Stewart handled the eighth before Tanner Scott took over in the ninth.

The Reds managed to put runners on first and third against Scott, but the Dodgers reliever responded by striking out three consecutive hitters to finish the shutout.

Los Angeles finished with eight hits and no errors, while Cincinnati was held to three hits. The performance marked the Dodgers' 12th shutout of the season.

Dodgers Closing In on the Division

The victory reduced the Dodgers' magic number to two for another NL West championship. Los Angeles has already secured its 14th consecutive postseason appearance and remains in the race for positioning near the top of the National League standings.

The Dodgers have now won the first two games of the series against Cincinnati and improved to 8-2 over their last 10 games.

With October approaching, Los Angeles is beginning to find its rhythm at exactly the right time.
