Venus Williams exits early in the Miami Open

Miami, FL- Venus Williams was defeated by 89th Zarina Diyas in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6, (12)- (10) in the first round of the Miami Open.

Williams struggled to find her rhythm in the first set . She had lost her confidence early in the match after having a couple of forced errors. Diyas kept Williams at bay with her forehand and back hand swing. Diyas won 86% of her first serves. Diyas went on to win the first set 6-2.

Things got a little interesting in the second set, Williams would not go down without a fight and the match had to be settled in overtime. Diyas did just enough to keep Williams from pushing the match to a third set.

This is what Diyas had to say about the tie break. "I’m really happy how I handled the tiebreak," Diyas said. "It was a lot of nerves, but happy I did it."

Diyas will advance to the next round and play Belinda Bencic.
