Turnovers haunted the Seahawks in a loss to the 9ers
A poor performance by Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith and the team's defense resulted in a 36-24 loss to the rival San Francisco 49ers in primetime on Thursday.
Despite passing for 312 yards and a touchdown, Smith was intercepted twice. This left the Seahawks with their third straight loss after starting the season 3-0 under Mike McDonald.
Four days after blowing a 23-10 halftime lead and losing to division rival Arizona, San Francisco fended off a second-half comeback from Seattle. Seattle got a boost from Laviska Shenault Jr.'s 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter. As soon as the 49ers punted, Smith led Seattle on a 94-yard drive and Kenneth Walker III scored from 1 yard out to bring Seattle within 23-17 of the 49ers.
But Smith's second interception hurt the most, by Renardo Green. It set up George Kittle's second touchdown on his birthday and gave the Niners the 29-17 lead. Smith responded by finding Tyler Lockett for a 9-yard scoring pass with 1:44 left to narrow the score to 29-24. San Francisco opened up the next drive with Isaac Guerendo’s 76-yard dash downfield showcasing that 4.3 speed that led to Kyle Juszczyk’s 6-yard TD run. That was the Seahawks' knockout blow.
