The Olympic journey has started, as the Tokyo Olympic torch relay started on Wednesday

Tokyo- On Wednesday, there was a sigh of hope and relief, as the Tokyo Olympic torch relay started.


In the mist of a global pandemic, the Tokyo Olympic committee has put together hope and safety precautions with moving forward with the 2021 Olympic games. On Wednesday, the first group of runners started the iconic torch relay through Fukushima.


Seiko Hashimoto, the head of the Games’ committee stated, "The start of the Olympic flame’s journey was a sign of hope. “For the past year, as the entire world went through a difficult period, the Olympic flame was kept alive quietly but powerfully,” she said at the opening ceremony, which was attended by a small number of dignitaries."


“The small flame did not lose hope, and just like the cherry blossom buds that are ready to bloom, it was waiting for this day.”


The torch will be passed through 859 locations for 120 days before the start of the official games, which will be set July 23.
