The Midshipmen fall short of a comeback against Notre Dame 35-32


The 20th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish faced off against the Navy Midshipmen at M&T Bank stadium. The Fighting Irish got out to a fast start early in the first quarter with two touchdown thrown by Quarterback Drew Pyne. Towards the end of the first quarter the Midshipmen got on the board with a rushing touchdown from running back Daba Fofana. The Midshipmen would cut the lead by 8 after Bijan Nichols missed the extra point.


In the second quarter the Fighting Irish would get another score passing touchdown with Pyne connecting to Thomas. The Fighting Irish would go up 21-6, but afterwards Midshipmen running back Daba Fofana would break off a 50-yard run and followed by a 26-yard run by Quarterback Xavier Arline. Arline would eventually score for a 2-yard rushing touchdown again cutting into the lead. The Fighting Irish would get back-to-back touchdowns from Drew Pyne one passing and one rushing going into halftime 35-13.


The third quarter, the Midshipmen would play shutdown defense to keep the Fighting Irish shutout and the Midshipmen would get a field goal from Bijan Nichols to make the game

35-16. In the fourth quarter the Midshipmen would bring the pressure again forcing an

interception from Drew Pyne setting up a 23-yard touchdown pass by Xavier Arline to Mark

Walker. Xavier Arline would run a 2-point conversion cutting the score to 35-24. Late in the

fourth quarter the Midshipmen would attempt a comeback after quarterback Xavier Arline would go down with a leg injury. Backup quarterback Maasai Maynor would come in and lead the Midshipmen offense downfield for a touchdown and complete 2-point conversion being down 35-32. With 1:23 to go the Midshipmen would fail to recover the onside kick. The Fighting Irish would escape with the win and improve their record to 7-3 and the Midshipmen falls to 3-7.
