TCU wins Big 12 opener against Cougars in Houston
TCU traveled to Southeastern Texas on a business trip. The Horned Frogs opened their Big 12 schedule against the University of Houston. The Cougars were making their Big 12 debut after being added to the conference this past offseason. The stage was set to now have another Texas school added to the Big 12, and TCU was up for the challenge and played to spoil the debut.
The Horned Frogs were in complete control on Saturday outscoring Houston in every quarter. TCU quarterback Chandler Morris showed true leadership throwing for 314 yards and 2 touchdowns on 24 of 37 completions. His demeanor on the sideline was very noticeable by energizing his offensive line and teammates with encouragement. Emani Bailey added 126 rushing yards on 23 carries and 1 touchdown.
TCU accumulated 250 rushing yards and possessed the ball for 34:16 compared to Houston’s 25:44. Houston struggled to run the ball against the Horned Frogs and were not able to score a touchdown, nor a point in the second half. Houston drops to 1-2 on the season, and 0-1 in the Big 12. TCU notches its second win of the year, and now will host SMU for the battle of the iron skillet in a cross-town rivalry with a matchup that will feature Ft. Worth vs. Dallas. The rivalry will be great for the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex, and will allow TCU a chance to measure themselves against another non-conference opponent that has a high-powered offense. TCU continues Big 12 play in two weeks when they will host West Virginia.
