Sue Bird Uses Her Platform To Shed Light On Social Issues

Seattle- Seattle Storm's Hall of Famer Sue Bird continues to use her platform to talk about social issues that need more awareness. During a phone conference about the upcoming 2020 ESPYS, Bird explained why actions speak louder than words and why it is very important for her, as well as others, to be advocates about the Black Lives Matter Movement. Take a listen to what she had to say in this audio clip.

Outside of the Black Lives Matter Movement, Bird explained her reasoning with wanting Colin Kaepernick back in the NFL and why it matters to others. "You can talk about change, but actions are part of changing and coming together. I think Kaepernick deserves a shot to play in the league."

With the COVID 19 pandemic still going on, the ESPYS have been altered as more of a virtual experience. It will be hosted by Russell Wilson, Megan Rapinoe, Sue Bird, and Reign Winger. Instead of highlighting athletic achievements, the highlights will be about perseverance and players who used their platforms to talk about different issues that America has had. Coverage of the ESPYS will air on ESPN June 21 at 9 p.m. ET.
