Steelers knock off rival Raiders in Sunday night primetime game

If America learned anything from Sunday’s Raiders vs Steelers primetime contest is that Davante Adams and TJ Watt are really good at football! The Steelers' offense this week was publicly challenged by Mike Tomlin to be better. And quarterback Kenny Pickett answered the call. Pickett threw for 235 yards and 2 tds. Perhaps the story of the night was the Steelers defense. They had a lot of good, bad and ugly moments. First the good, cornerback Levi Wallace had two interceptions, veteran cornerback Patrick Peterson had a pick and outside linebacker T.J. Watt had two of the team’s four sacks. The bad was what Davante Adams did to this Steelers defense catching 13 passes for 172 yards and 2 TDs. Adams would have been the player of the game had the Raiders won. However, his quarterback Jimmy Garopolo struggled with turnovers and indecisiveness inside the pocket that made it extremely ugly for the Raiders. The game was played at a back-and-forth pace the Steelers marched out to a 23-7 lead. The Raiders scored 11 unanswered points to cut their deficit 23-18. For the Raiders a bit of a head scratching decision happened when Raiders had the ball in the red zone on 4th and 4 down eight points with 2:22 left in the 4th, instead of going for it. The Raiders decided to kick a FG. For viewers it might have seemed like a lack of trust from the Raiders head coach to his quarterback. Down the stretch Steelers trusted Kenny Pickett more and he delivered on a key 3rd down to clinch the game for the Steelers. The Raiders will have to answer a lot of questions. They have the talent however, they are the only team in the NFL that hasn’t scored 20 points in a game yet. And Jimmy Garroplo has looked horrible. As for the Steelers they have a two game winning streak and look to carry the momentum against a Texans team that is coming off a big win vs the Jaguars.
