South Carolina steals LSU's heart in closing minutes to make a statement

The Tigers led for nearly 33 minutes of the game but couldn't close it out as they fell 76-70. With the loss, coach Kim Mulkey’s team falls to 17-3 and 4-2 in SEC play. It was an offensively successful start for both teams, but LSU seized the early momentum with some slightly out-of-character three-point shooting. The Tigers led 24-18 after one quarter, and 41-30 late in the second, but the Gamecocks closed the period with a 6-0 run, including a three by MiLaysia Fulwiley at the buzzer.

The Tigers shot 58.7% in the third quarter to the Gamecocks' 40%, but they were still outscored by one point as South Carolina cut the deficit to just four entering the final 10 minutes of the game.

Aneesah Morrow had 16 points and 13 rebounds for LSU. Angel Reese had 15 points and eight rebounds but fouled out with 4:02 left and the Tigers clinging to a 67-65 lead. Johnson hit two free throws to tie it. The Tigers made only one basket in the remaining 1:42 of the game - a 3-pointer by Hailey Van Lith that tied the game at 70-all. After Bree Hall made a 3 with 1:14 left, Raven Johnson hit a basket with 22 seconds left to give the Gamecocks the lead. This was the nail in the coffin.

Although it was an outstanding game all around, these teams will not face each other in the regular season. We can only hope they meet again in the SEC tournament or perhaps the NCAA tournament
