Serena Williams eliminated from Italian Open

New York- Serena Williams was defeated by Nadia Podoroska 7(8)-6-(6), 7-5.



In the first set, Serena Williams was very aggressive with making Nadia Podoroska attempt to hit her backhand shot early on, however unforced errors haunted Williams. After being up majority of the set, Williams dropped two consecutive games, which helped Podroska tie up the game at four games apiece. Williams had an opportunity to go up a game, but another unforced error halted a winning game. With her back against the wall, Williams won two games she needed, but ended up losing the set 7(8)- 6(6).


In the second set, Williams was doing a good job with winning her first serve, however Podroska kept fighting back. When it seemed like Williams was gaining her confidence and taking control of the set, Podroska would put together a furry of serves that Williams could not get to. Williams unforced errors kept her out of syn and Podroska took advantage of it.Williams attempted to dig herself out of a 5-2 hole and won three games to make it a very competitive match. Williams battled back, but could not get Podroska off of her toes. Williams went on to lose the set 7-5.
