If you are a fan of tennis, Monday was a treat for you as the younger generation of stars shinned bright. In the sweet 16 tournament of the US Open. You had Naomi Osaka, who was playing her best tennis in recent tournaments and Coco Gauff, who has been a force in women's tennis. Prior to the match, Osaka was asked about her play, and she said that she was playing freer and not having harsh expectations, while Gauff said she is still working out the kinks with improving her serves.
From the start of the match, Osaka was very aggressive with making Gauff hit some difficult backhand shots and jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first set. Osaka's shot placements were mainly in the middle, which kept Gauff thinking. Just like the previous two matches, Gauff dug herself out of a hole and got herself back in the game by getting more spin on the ball with her forehand shots. Say what you want, but Osaka's won the later games by winning her first serve percentage and went on to take the first set 6-3.
Each time it looked like Gauff was building momentum in the second set, Osaka would come back and win a game. Osaka's confidence could be seen growing and glowing with each game, while Gauff looked flustered and frustrated. Osaka went at Gauff; the same way she won the first set. She threw a lot of forehand shots, which won her majority over the games. Osaka went onto win 6-2.
