Mahomes magic happens again, as the Chiefs edges the Chargers in OT 23-20

Kansas City- Harrison Butker sent the Chiefs home with victory after a game winning field goal in overtime against the Chargers.

After blowing out the Houston Texans last week in their home opener, the Chiefs had a difficult task to stop the Los Angeles Chargers. In the first half, the Chargers were very aggressive testing out the Chiefs' secondary. Justin Herbert got the start over Tyrod Taylor due to an injury and did not disappoint. Herbert threw a couple of passes into some tight windows and eventually got his team in the redzone late in the first quarter. Herbert called his own number and put on the madden speed burst to run for a five-yard touchdown to put the Chargers up, 7-0.

The Chiefs on the offensive end, had trouble figuring out the Chargers. Patrick Mahomes had no time in the pocket and was rushing his throws. The Chargers corners was very physical with the Chiefs' wide receivers and made it hard for them to get out on their routes. Late in the second quarter, Mahomes adjusted and threw a touchdown strike to Travis Kelce, but the Chiefs missed a PAT. After the Chiefs scored, Herbert was just smooth and poised as butter. He took his team down the field and threw a touchdown pass to Jalen Guyton to give the Chargers a 14-6 lead at the half.

The Chiefs struggled to get something going in the second half, as Tyreek Hill in the third quarter did not have a catch. After the Chargers tacked on a field goal early in the quarter, it seemed like the Chiefs' confidence was winded. Late in the the third quarter the Chiefs had a semi productive drive, but it was cut short as they had to settle for a field goal. Kansas City cut the lead down to eight, 17-9 at the end of the quarter.

Mahomes finally got some sunlight, rolling to his right and threw a 54-yard touchdown bomb to a streaking Hill. The Chiefs went for the two-point conversion and was successful with the score. The game was tied at 17 midway in the fourth. With under five minutes left, the Chiefs made a huge mistake with hitting Herbert below his legs after the play was over, which was a huge factor in the game. Three plays later, the Chargers kicked a field goal to go up three, 20-17. Mahomes' magic happened again as he drove his team down the field to put them in position to kick a game tying field goal. The field goal was successful and into overtime we go.

The Chargers got the ball first, but had a three and out. Kansas City drove the ball down the field and got within Harrison Butker' kicking range. Butker sent the Chargers home, as he kicked a 58-yard field goal to win it for the Chiefs.

Mahomes finished with 302 yards, 2 touchdowns, and ran for 54 yards.
