MELBOURNE, Australia — After several days of fighting jet lag, adjusting to a massive time difference and getting accustomed to life on the other side of the world, Kyle Shanahan believes the San Francisco 49ers are finally ready to turn their full attention toward football.

The 49ers head coach spoke with reporters Monday as San Francisco continued preparations for its Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne. While the unusual trip has required plenty of adjustment, Shanahan said he and his players are beginning to feel like themselves again.

“For me, I feel my most normal today,” Shanahan said. “I think it’s the third day, but I’m doing good and I think most of the guys are doing really good too.”

San Francisco chose to arrive in Australia well ahead of its season opener, giving players time to acclimate to the dramatic time change. Shanahan said hydration, rest and getting players’ body clocks adjusted have been priorities since their arrival.

The players received a day off and some took advantage of the opportunity to explore Melbourne, including attending an Australian Football League game. Shanahan, however, hasn’t had nearly as much sightseeing time.

“Most of the city I’ve seen out my window,” he joked.

Now that the initial adjustment period is over, Shanahan said the trip has shifted into a normal game-week routine.“Everything has been about getting hydrated, getting used to the time difference,” Shanahan said. “Now I feel like we’ve finally done that and we’re ready for a real good practice today.”
