In what was an intense 400-meter freestyle race on Saturday night, the Paris La Defense Arena echoed cheers from the supporters that could be heard outside of the venue. Australia’s Ariarne Titmus remained focused to put herself in place to capture a medal, and many felt this was her race to win again after capturing gold in Tokyo 2021 in the same race. Katie Ledecky captures her first medal of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games with a bronze in 400-meter freestyle.
Her 11 medals now include a bronze medal, which is her first-ever at any Olympics competition. Rounding out the medals for Women’s 400m Freestyle is Australia’s Ariarne Titmus taking gold, Canada’s Summer McIntosh taking silver, and Katie Ledecky taking home her first bronze. Ledecky was honest when answering her thoughts on the race, “There are a lot of things I would have liked to have done better. I just couldn’t kick into that next gear that I would have wanted to finish it out.”
